EL CRUCERO SÁNCHEZ BARCAÍZTEGUI: ACERCAMIENTO
HISTÓRICO ARQUEOLÓGICO.

RESUMEN:
Alrededor de las doce de la noche del 18 de septiembre de 1895 los habaneros
que gozaban del frescor de un paseo alrededor del castillo de la Punta
sintieron un inusitado estruendo que venía del mar. Pocos minutos,
después desesperados gritos inundaron la tranquilidad que reinaba
a la entrada del puerto y el agua comenzó a agitarse, a ebullir.
Cientos de cuerpos humanos se debatían en un tremendo esfuerzo
por sobrevivir al mar, a la oscuridad y a la voracidad de los tiburones,
numerosos por aquellos tiempos.
Los curiosos comenzaron a aumentar y cuentan que más de una dama
perdió el sentido ante los gritos despavoridos de los marineros
al ser devorados vivos por los escualos. La tragedia se desató
sobre la Fidelísima.
El crucero español "Sánchez Barcaíztegui"
había sido envestido por el vapor "Mortera" y hundido
en pocos minutos apenas a unos metros del Morro. Murieron 31 personas
en este desastre, mujeres perdieron a sus esposos, niños a sus
padres, la Marina a varios de sus mejores soldados y oficiales: las calles
de La Habana se vistieron de luto
SUMMARY:
Around twelve in the night of September 18th, 1895, the Havanan ones
that enjoyed the coolness of a walk around the castle of the Tip felt
an unusual roar that came from the sea. Few minutes later, desperate
screams flooded the tranquility that reigned to the entrance of the
port and the water began to become agitated. Hundred of human bodies
were debated in a tremendous effort to survive the sea, to the darkness
and the voracity of the sharks, numerous for those times.
The onlookers began to increase and they count that more than a lady
it lost the sense before the screams from the sailors when being devoured
alive for the sharks. The tragedy loosened on the Fidelísima.
The Spanish cruise Sánchez Barcaíztegui had been crashed
for the vapor " Mortera " and hardly collapsed in few minutes
to some meters of the Morro. 31 people died in this disaster, women
lost their husbands, children to their parents, the Marina to several
of their best soldiers and officials: the streets of Havana got dressed
of mourning
